- 2 1/2 cups cake flour
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 1/4 cups vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon Wilton dark blue gel food coloring
- 1 tiny dab Wilton violet gel food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 20 tablespoons (2 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 2 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar (10 ounces)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
